Westwood Real Estate

Westwood, a district in Western Los Angeles, is best known as home to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Originally carved from the old Wolfskilll Farm, a 3,000+ acre estate belonging to wealthy retailer Arthur Letts, his son in law, Harold Janss, developed the real estate in the area and began selling new homes in 1922. Many of the permanent residents in Westwood are generally affluent and live in high rise apartment buildings. In nearby Holmby Hills, there are a number of upscale single family homes. There are also a number of single family homes east and southeast of UCLA. Low rise and medium rise apartment buildings that cater to upscale young professionals in addition to some UCLA students can be found in the area bounded by Sepulveda, Santa Monica, Westwood and Wilshire Boulevard. Most UCLA students who live in Westwood reside in the low rise apartments between the western boundary of the college campus and Veteran Avenue.

Some of the attractions in Westwood include several vintage movie theaters, which include the Art Deco Crest, the Mann Bruin and Mann Village which was once known as the Fox Theatre. The Playboy Mansion, home of Hugh Hefner who founded this magazine, is also located in Westwood.
